Little Birds are bathing
Crocodiles in cream,
Like a happy dream;
Like, but not so lasting -
Crocodiles, when fasting,
Are not all they seem!
Lewis Carroll

This one comes from Sylvie and Bruno. I do love that!

This one comes from Provocation and may perhaps serve as an additional explanation of something that seems to be not quite explainable. Nic tak nie podnieca dziś wydawców i autorów, jak książka, której nikt nie musi czytać, ale każdy powinien mieć. Stanisław Lem The EN for the above goes, more or less, like this: "Nowadays, nothing can excite publishers and writers like a book which nobody needs to read but everybody must own". Sorry about poor translation; just trying not to deviate from the source... I might have already posted this quote somewhere, sometime, but as the words represent a Veritable Solemn Truth, I suppose repeating won`t hurt. :D And further I believe that the particular CSI would come of tremendous use in making a stand against the Presumption of Guilt, which has become a universal plague. While criminals protected by the Presumption of Innocence enjoy the benefit of the doubt, no such luxury for non-criminals smitten by an Administrative Code, or by some crazy Barnevernet, or just finding themselves in an awkward situation through no fault of theirs, like, say, wrong place at the wrong time, and so on... No Presumption of Innocence for them, and as to Protection of Human Dignity, well, they can forget that! It`s always the Presumption of Guilt for the law-abiding, and no Common Sense International to protect them... The funny thing is nobody seems to find the state of affairs weird. Or rather of the century. Most probably millenia. Because this one seems to be timeless and universal.
Коли начнет человек себя вести на манер государства – посадят ведь его, как пить дать посадят! Евгений Лукин The English for this runs, more or less, so: Should a person start behaving the way the State behaves, the person would be jailed, as sure as eggs is eggs. |
