There`s this Lithuanian proverb, cruel but accurate:
Ir šuo kariamas pripranta.
The EN for this is "A dog gets used to being hanged, too".
It`s aimed at grumblers and is supposed to explain how anyone can get used to anything. Still, the full text includes (occasionally) an explanation: ...iš pradžių spardosi, o paskui nurimsta ("...at first it kicks, and then it calms down").
Well, what with the excessive restrictions and crazy directives lavished upon meek subjects by demented authorities, the situation of many a human, nowadays, seems to be worse than that of the hanged dog. We are being hanged, and some of us even are getting used to that, but the desired calm does not come...
